10 TIPS TO BETTER REMEMBER YOUR DREAMS

(Last Updated On: )

Everyone dreams every night. And every thought has a meaning, a special message from your unconscious. A dream can point you to certain things or change your life.

A dream can even warn you of danger or be the source of beautiful inspiration. That’s why it’s a shame if you forget your goal, but remembering isn’t that easy. But you can practice remembering marriage.

I know a number that, in any case, give me quick results.

Tip 1: Ensure a healthy night’s sleep

It sounds like an open door, but it is an absolute condition to be able to remember your dreams: a good, peaceful night’s sleep.

  • Make sure you have enough time to sleep
  • Make sure you are calm inside. Get rid of your worries during the day as much as possible. Meditation can help you with that
  • Make sure you don’t have too many distractions around you (television, books, food)
  • Provide a fresh, well-ventilated bedroom
  • Do not watch exciting films, do not read inspiring books, and do not listen to heavy music before you go to bed. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with relaxing music or reading a few pages in a good book before bed.
  • Do not go to sleep with a full stomach. Food that you eat just before you go to bed, hardly digests. It is, therefore, heavy on the stomach and can easily disturb your sleep and your dreams.

Tip 2: Be motivated

You have to think your dreams are important enough to remember them. Otherwise, you are guaranteed to forget them. You also need to be prepared to take the time to get up with your dreams before you get up. Finally, it is essential that you dare to face your dreams and what they want to tell you, it can sometimes be quite scary and confronting.

Tip 3: Place pen and paper near the bed

Before you go to sleep, put a pen and paper next to your bed. This way, you can immediately record your impressions of the dream as soon as you wake up. It also provides extra motivation: by putting down your pen and paper, you consciously remember to remember at least one dream.

On the paper, you can write the names of the eight most essential people in your life. When you wake up and go through this list, it may be that the dream comes to mind: Oh, yes. I did indeed dream of Jan. Don’t forget to put your parents on the list. Even though they no longer play a role in your life or have died, people often turn out to be dreaming about their parents.

Tip 4: Do not use alcohol or sleeping pills

Alcohol and drugs affect sleep. Also, they prevent the remembering of dreams. Your dreams change with the use of sleeping pills. Maybe an excellent motivation to reduce a little with the help of the doctor?

Tip 5: Do not move after waking up

When you wake up, stay in the same position with your eyes closed. If you move, even if it is just from your side to your back or just your arm to turn off the alarm, your dream will disappear. Often you only remember the end of a dream. If you stay calm, the dream often comes back to you in reverse order.

Tip 6: Allow yourself the time

Give yourself the time to stay in bed immediately after you wake up and let the content of the dream penetrate you. Also, pay attention to how you felt when you awoke from your dream. That feeling can bring back new memories of your dream. Then turn on the light and write down your dream.

Tip 7: Program yourself

A factor that makes it very difficult to follow the two previous tips is the alarm clock. When you wake up from the alarm clock, it is almost impossible to keep your dream images with you. Therefore, try to wake up before the alarm clock starts. This works best if you go to bed at about the same time every day and get up at the same time.

You can also program yourself by repeating to yourself just before you fall asleep: “I wake up five minutes tomorrow before the alarm clock goes off, and I will remember my dream.” It sounds a little weird but is guaranteed to help!

Tip 8: Do not dismiss details as unimportant

Sometimes you wake up and only remember a patch or fragment of a dream. Sometimes your dream is very short or very trivial. You then tend to dismiss the dream (or fragment) as unimportant and not to write it down. This is unfortunate.

A very everyday dream can tell us a lot, and detail is often the entrance to remind you more about the dream. The detail is important anyway, why else would you remember it?

Tip 9: Make a note of your dreams as soon as you remember them

When you remember your dream, immediately take the time to write it down. Do you think: “I know what I dreamed, I take a nice shower, and then I write it down,” then you irrevocably lose parts of the dream.

Tip 10: Keep a dream diary

Purchase a notebook or something similar in which you work out your notes at a quiet moment in the day. This is also the moment when you try to figure out the meaning of your dreams, the moment when you explain your dreams.

If you keep a dream diary for a longer period of time, you will see that certain elements and symbols keep recurring in your dreams. This is important information! If you are regularly busy with your dreams during the day, you better remember them.

Finally

In this article, I have limited myself to tips for remembering your dreams. Many books have been published that can help you explain your dreams. Your own intuition and view of the world naturally play an important role in this.

A variety of information about dream interpretation can also be found on the internet. I wish you the best of luck and enjoyment with your dreams, and don’t forget what the Talmud says: “A misunderstood dream is like an unopened letter.”
