WHAT TYPES OF WORK ENVIRONMENTS WILL I FIND?
There are different work environments a CT tech can choose to work at. That will depend on your availability, your personality, interests, and aptitudes.

WHAT IS A CT TECH WORKDAY LIKE?
Depending on where you work, your day will be divided between computer tasks like patient charting, computer CT software for reconstructions and 3Ds, and interactions with patients, doctors, and nurses.
1.- If you work at a Level 1 Hospital:
CT techs can have days full of adrenaline, they will be challenging but rewarding and you will feel like your job truly matters.
You will help people and also help doctors save lives.
You will have to help move and scan patients with a variety of life-threatening injuries like:
• Gunshot and stab wounds
• Major burns
• Traumatic car crash injuries
• Blunt trauma
• Brain injuries
• Broken bones
• Fainting or loss of consciousness
• Heart attacks
• Severe vomiting, stomach pains, and/or diarrhea
2.- If you work at hospitals that are level 2, 3, 4:
Your days might have a slower pace, you will be scanning patients with less severe injuries and diseases.
3.- If you work at outpatients’ clinics, orthopedics offices, private physicians,
You will likely have scheduled patients daily every 30 minutes or every hour and you will know exactly what you will scan every day. Patients will not be as ill, and they will be able to move on their own.
4.- If you work for a sales company,
You will be able to travel to different hospitals and medical facilities where new CT equipment is acquired, and you will help with the computer and software setup and training of employees.

WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON CT TECH FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES?
- Delivers appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
- Assesses the patient’s physical condition and age-specific needs.
- Provides instructions that achieve patient cooperation and desired results.
- Performs proper patient identification, acquires patient’s clinical history, and assures that the information is accurately documented.

- Assesses diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy is demonstrated.
- Applies principles of radiation safety to minimize exposure to patients, themselves, and others.
- Assists in the supervision of student technologists and training of new technologists.
- Utilizes all Corporate Radiology computer systems effectively and accurately.
- Ensures the safety of all customers.
- Provides patient transport.
HOW MANY HOURS DO CT TECHNOLOGISTS WORK?
It depends on the WORK setting:
• Medical facilities offer varied schedules: 3 days, 12-hour shifts (36 hours); 4 days, 10-hour shifts; or 5 days, 8-hour shifts.
• Hospital settings: usually have 3 to 4 shifts a day
• First shift: it’s usually from 7 am to 3 pm, 8 am to 4 pm, or 9 am to 6 pm.
• Second shift: it’s usually from 1 pm to 11 pm.
• Third shift: overnight shifts can be from 7 pm to 7 am, or 11 pm to 7 am
• Although hours can vary, many full-time CT technologists work around 40 hours a week.
WHAT EDUCATION AND TRAINING DO I NEED TO BECOME A CT TECH?
To become a CT Tech, first, you will need to obtain an Associate in Science (A.S.) degree in a Radiography program. The Radiography Associate in Science (A.S.) degree is a two-year program that prepares you to go directly into a specialized career as a Radiologic Technologist. There are some prerequisites for admission, depending on the school, but you will usually need to complete some general education requirements in communications, mathematics, humanities, social sciences, and science.
After you become a licensed Radiologic technologist, you can have the option to advance your career and obtain a Advanced Technical Certificate in Computed Tomography in just 6 more months.
Many hospitals and private clinics, offer to pay their employees for that education and some will even offer to cross-train, so you don’t even need to go to school again.
WHAT SCHOOLS OFFER CT PROGRAMS? HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GO TO SCHOOL?
There are a lot of colleges and universities in the United States that offer programs to study a degree in radiologic technology.

The Radiography Associate in Science (A.S.) degree is a two-year long program. The CT certificate in just 6 more months. You can have the option to cross train as well.
WHAT IS THE SALARY RANGE?
CT technologist’s average salaries range from $ 61,900 – $92,660
The hourly rate will vary depending on the state, the medical facility, and how many years of experience you have.
It can be as low as $ 29.76 p/hr., and it can go as high as over $44.55 per hour.
HOW TO BECOME A TRAVELER CT TECH?
To become a traveler CT Tech, you will need a minimum of 2 years of experience as a CT Tech in a medical facility.
HOW CAN I MAKE $4000 A WEEK AS A TRAVELER CT TECH?
Depending on how willing you are to travel out of your home state, some states are severely under staff, and they are offering up to $4000 per week.
These states are Connecticut, Montana, California, Massachusetts, Ohio, New Hampshire, Nebraska, etc.
You can also become a traveler inside your state, traveling 1 to 3 hrs., and you could be paid from $2000 to $3000 per week
CAN I WORK AND GO TO SCHOOL AT THE SAME TIME?
Yes, many students do it. You can work on weekends, afternoons, or evenings.
DO I NEED TO BE IN GOOD PHYSICAL SHAPE TO BE EMPLOYED AS A CT TECHNOLOGIST?
There is no physical fitness requirement for this position, but it will depend on the setting you work in.
Some hospitals, especially trauma hospitals, will expect some type of moving help, transporting patients or moving them from a stretcher to a CT table
WHAT IS THE AVERAGE PLACEMENT AFTER GRADUATION?
Here in Florida is particularly good, but it will depend on the student. You can get hired right away!
